China's Natural Gas Consumption Reaches a New Milestone
According to the latest data released by the National Development and Reform Commission, China's apparent natural gas consumption reached 426.05 billion cubic meters in 2024, marking an 8% year-on-year increase. This is the first time China's annual natural gas consumption has surpassed the 400 billion cubic meters mark. This milestone not only reflects the robust growth in China's natural gas market demand but also signifies a significant step forward in the country's energy structure adjustment.
In terms of supply, domestic production accounted for approximately 240 billion cubic meters, while imports reached around 200 billion cubic meters, resulting in a reliance on foreign sources exceeding 40%. The stable supply of domestically produced gas highlights China's advancements in natural gas extraction technology, laying a solid foundation for energy security. Meanwhile, imported gas has supplemented the domestic demand gap, with diversified import channels ensuring supply stability.
